Amateur Night at The Apollo

Known as one of New York’s most popular live entertainment experiences, Amateur Night at The Apollo attracts performers and audiences from around the world in a classic talent competition that has launched the careers of countless legendary artists, from Ella Fitzgerald, Luther Vandross, Lauryn Hill, H.E.R, Machine Gun Kelly, Jazmine Sullivan and more. 

 

Join the fun with the weekly classic competition that sheds light on the careers of a whole new roster of stars. Be a part of the notoriously “tough” audience in an interactive evening unlike any other and lend your voice to decide who will “Be Good or Be Gone!” to win the triumphant grand prize.

Luenell: The Original Bad Girl Of Comedy Live At The Apollo on May 16, 2025

Luenell, the “Original Bad Girl of Comedy,” has thrilled audiences for over 30 years with her bold humor and infectious energy. Born in Arkansas and raised in Oakland, she is currently headlining her Fresh Out of Favors comedy tour and holding a residency at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club in Las Vegas. Luenell’s Netflix special, Town Business, is executive produced by Dave Chappelle and directed by Stan Lathan. Her breakout role in Borat introduced her to a global audience, and she’s since appeared in major films like Coming 2 America, Dolemite Is My Name, and A Star is Born. On television, Luenell has been featured in Hacks, The Last O.G., It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and more. She also appears in the Amazon Prime series Phat Tuesdays, celebrating the iconic comedy showcase that launched the careers of Black comedians. Luenell’s comedy CD Luenell Live: I Only Drink at Work is available on digital platforms.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem presents a family matinee of Harlem Mouse/Country Mouse - an exciting retelling of Aesop's Fable, City Mouse and Country Mouse. Harlem Mouse/Country Mouse references the rich traditions of the Black South, modern-day life in Harlem, and the unique expressions of dance, music and poetry that arise when cultures collide, and unites the dynamic artists of the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company together with students from the Dance Theatre of Harlem School. Conceived as a celebration of the Harlem community, this full-length story ballet is an uplifting event for the whole family!

A Night of Insight: Ta-Nehisi Coates Introduces 'The Message' at Harlem's Apollo Theater - Ebony
On Tuesday, the long line snaking across Harlem’s 125th Street leading to the world-famous Apollo Theater might make passersby think Travis Scott hit New York City for the night. Upon closer inspection, the sold-out crowd was cued up for a night of ideas over beats and rhymes. Author-intellectual Ta-Nehisi Coates just released his fifth book, The Message: a thinking man’s travelogue through South Carolina, Senegal and Israel in search of embracing some difficult truths.

A Legacy of Culture

The Apollo is an American cultural treasure. It is a vibrant non-profit organization rooted in the Harlem community that engages people from around New York, the nation, and the world. Since 1934, The Apollo has celebrated, created, and presented work that centers Black artists and voices from across the African Diaspora. It has also been a catalyst for social and civic advocacy. Today, The Apollo is the largest performing arts institution committed to Black culture and creativity.

The Apollo envisions a new American canon centered

The Apollo envisions a new American canon centered on contributions to the performing arts by artists of the African diaspora, in America and beyond.

The Apollo is led by a predominantly Black and women-led executive team

The Apollo is led by a predominantly Black and women-led executive team, steered by Michelle Ebanks, the organization’s President and CEO. She succeeded Jonelle Procope, who helmed The Apollo for nearly two decades.
